The selection of the appropriate waste stream as feedstock for
biotechnological purposes mainly depends on the global region
where industrial PHAs production will be carried out. The costs of
PHAs production will be lower, if production plant will be integrated
with the existing production lines, where the feedstock is
directly accrued as waste streams (Koller et al., 2010a). One of the
promising substrates, which could be converted into polyhydroxyalkanoates
is cheese whey, a side-product of dairy industry.
