The dog recovered uneventfully from surgery and
was discharged with antibiotics and pain medication.
Aerobic culture of the aural tissue yielded many Staphylococcus
pseudintermedius and few beta-hemolytic
group G Streptococcus spp, both of which were susceptible
to the prescribed antibiotics. The dog’s clinical signs
of vestibular disease and proprioceptive deficits
improved postoperatively. Unfortunately, the dog died
of a gastric dilatation-volvulus and subsequent gastric
rupture approximately 3.5 months after surgery.
