Edward Teach was a notorious 18 century pirate who went by the name of Blackbeard. He earned his nickname for his enormous black beard. Right before attacking a ship, Blackbeard was known to light matches he had woven into his beard. His appearance would intimidate the crew, and more often than not, they would surrender the ship without a fight. For years, Blackbeard sailed the waters of the Caribbean where he attacked and took valuables from more than 50 ships. Over the years, he gathered a large treasure of gold, silver, and jewels.
Blackbeard was killed by a British officer in 1718. However, before his death, he revealed that he had buried his treasure where no one would find it. For many years, treasure hunters have searched for the treasure, but so far no trace of it has been found.
