Gracilaria lemaneiformis (Bory) Weber-van Bosse (Rhodophyta) is
an economically important red seaweed that is artificially cultivated
on a large scale in the nearshores of China because of the quantity and
quality of its agar. Moreover, this alga is an excellent species for controlling
the increasing levels of eutrophication along the coast of China (Fei,
2004). Maricultivation of this alga, as with other economically important
macroalgae, serves as an efficient way of environmental remediation
(Tang et al., 2005).
