We describe another component of this workshop in Chapter 7. But for now, what can we make of this initial exercise for creative community engagehat can we make of this initial exercise for creative community engagement? I have a few thoughts. First, it’s worth remembering that this workshop was held in 2001 and (in Australia, at least) things have changed dramatically in the professions and with professional education and training since then. There is now much wider acknowledgement of concepts such as emotional intelligence. Second, I am convinced that professionals do want to have fun and be creative in professional settings. They love it, in fact, so long as they can see the direct relevance to their work. Third, we need to do this work – those of us who are community engagement facilitators and planners. We need to have opportunities to dream it up, make it happen and sit back and marvel at the results. And then tell the stories about how it went, who said what and how we were transformed in the process…
