1. Introduction
Industrial developments result in large emission of particles,
dust and gas pollutants to the environment. Dusts and particulate
emissions have been one of the most important environmental
problems in recent years.
The health hazards of many dusts strongly depend upon their
sizes. Dusts and fine particles in the air can be very harmful for
human being and for the other living creatures. Particles may be
categorized in 3 groups: (1) particles with diameter of larger than
10 m, (2) particles with diameter between 2.5 and 10 m, (3) particles
with diameter smaller than 2.5 m [1,2]. Prevention of the
emissions of the fine particles is much harder than the larger ones.
Moreover, those fine particles have a greater hazardous influence
on the human health than the larger particles. It should be noted
that respiratory system is not able to trap the fine particles [1].
Particles larger than 10 m are deposited mostly in the nose and
5 m mostly in the bronchi, and only those of 2 m and smaller can
penetrate into the lower lung and alveoli [3]. These fine particles
also remain in the atmosphere for longer durations, resulting in
potential visibility problems and adverse effects on human health
[4].
