Clinics may
take place for a full working day, up to five days a week.
This may involve a significant level of occupational
exposure for clinic staff. It has been estimated that the
level of exposure received by phototherapy staff may
increase the risk of skin cancer during a working life
of 40 years by about 25% compared to non-exposed
workers.
Due to the harmful effects of UVR, it is vital
that occupational exposure to phototherapy staff is
kept within acceptable limits.4
