The total protein content in the serum was measured according
to Reinhold (1953) by the Biuret method. The peptide bonds
of protein react with cupric ions in alkaline solution to form
a colored chelate, the absorbance of which is measured at
550 nm.The determination of albumin in the serum was done
by using a diagnostic kit (Lifechem, Kamineni Life Sciences Pvt
Ltd, Hydrabad). This method was based on the binding behavior
of the protein with the dye bromocresol green at pH 4.0.
Albumin acts as a cation and binds to the anionic dye forming
a green complex, the absorbance of which was read at 630 nm.
Serum globulin concentration was calculated using the following
formula after the estimation of total proteins and
albumin. Globulins = Total proteins – Albumin. A/G ratio was
calculated using the following formula. A/G ratio = Albumin/
Total protein – Albumin
