The skill of "take off gloves/mittens" (ADT 50) is not the reverse of this task; rather, greater fine-motor control, as well as proprioceptive (understanding where body parts are in space without visual cues) abilities, are needed. It seems helpful to begin with gloves or mittens that are too large and progressively reduce the size until the glove or mitten is the appropriate size for the student. The desired outcome should be gloves as opposed to mittens, but for some students the motor skills are too involved. In those cases, mittens should be used.
