Enzyme sales are the next big focus for the Ecuador division of dutch company DSM Nutritional Products, a leading supplier of human and animal vitamins worldwide.
The company also sells enzymes and protein substitutes to aquaculture feed companies, and that is where the focus of its Ecuador division is going now. Sales of enzymes increased in Ecuador by 4% this year while overall aquaculture sales – including vitamins, enzymes and protein alternatives, increased 10%, Santiago Marino, commercial manager for the Dutch company’s Ecuador division, told Undercurrent News.
Next year it is eyeing another 10% increase in overall aquaculture sales, and at the expo, it is pushing its Ronozyme ProAct enzyme product.
“It’s the most important product that we sell,” Marino said. The big challenge in getting industry adoption is education, Marino said.
Vitamins are known to be essential to all shrimp farming operations, while enzymes are known to be merely helpful; but as the global aquaculture feed industry focuses more and more on alternative proteins, enzymes are becoming more essential, Marino said.
