Client will :
- Report a decrease in her pain resulting from injuries sustained during her abuse.
- Demonstrate no difficulty breathing and verbalize feeling more relaxed
- Demonstrate less fear and anxiety by being able to discuss her abuse and explore possible options for resolving it with the nurse.
- Verbalize an awareness of her increasingly dangerous situation because her abuse has intensified over time.
- Discuss with the nurse the implications for herself, her spouse, and other family members if she remains in the present abusive situation and explore with the nurse alternative means of family coping.
- Demonstrate an awareness of the need for safety by taking steps to protect herself in the future.
- Explore the possibility of pursuing litigation against her husband and requesting a restraining order if her husband is not jailed.
- Devise plans to secure her safety in case of future threats of abuse.
- Take advantage of community resources that increase her self-esteem and independence and become involved with an outreach group for battered women.
