5.3 Temporary Hot WorkTemporary Hot Work refers to welding, cutting, soldering, roofing, processing withhigh-speed tools and other works, which generate heat or any formation of sparks.Temporary hot works refers to the above listed activities performed in areas wherethere is normally no hot works performed.Temporary Hot Work procedures shall apply to all temporary hot work, regardless ifit is performed by our own employees or external contractors.5.3.1 Hot Work Permit SystemsThe written Hot Work Permit in Appendix G shall be implemented at all sites. Thepermit shall be used when any temporary hot work is to be done and is applicableto all areas on site.Issued Hot Work Permits should be saved/archived for at least one year.5.3.2 ResponsibilitiesThere shall be an appointed Autoliv employee responsible for all temporary HotWorks performed on site. The Responsible person shall ensure the use of the HotWork Permit. The Responsible person shall not be the one performing theintended temporary hot work. Responsibilities for the appointed employee may befound in the Hot Work Permit system examples in Appendix G. There shall be atleast one deputy to the appointed responsible Temporary Hot Work employee.Appointed persons shall have adequate training for the task.Note: Before issuing a permit, and/or performing Hot Work, alwaysdetermine, is there a safer way?Note: Hot Work Permits in sites with sprinkler systems and/or fire pumpsout of service can only be approved by site Senior Managementand/or Health & Safety.5.3.3 Core Safety RequirementsAll safety and security requirements may be found in the Hot Work Permit system inAppendix G; however, the core safety requirements are listed below:• The Hot Work permit procedure/permit shall always be used• Any workplace for temporary hot works shall be inspected daily duringcontinuous work.• Fire watch – a fire watchman shall be appointed and be present at theworkplace during entire hot work (incl. lunch breaks, etc.).• After control – the area shall be supervised at least one (1) hour after the hotwork has been completed.• Fire extinguishing equipment – at least two fire extinguishers and/or a hose reelshall be present at any hot work location.
