Louis XVI Style Gilt-Bronze Mounted Mahogany and Ebony Commode à Vantaux After the Model by Adam Wieswieler. Stamped ‘LEXCELLENT / PARIS' to one door and to drawer, one lock signed ‘Lexcellent Fabt Paris' and ‘B.Theau Serrurier Paris'. This exceptional commode has a shaped portor marble top above three frieze drawers and two cupboard doors; one opening to three mahogany and satinwood veneered sliding shelves, the other opening to three drawers.
The present commode is based on an example by Adam Wieswieler supplied in 1788 by Daguerre for the Cabinet Intérieur of Louis XVI at the Château de Saint-Cloud and now residing at the Chateau de Compiegne.
