Weerawit Weeraworawit is the Deputy Secretary-General of the National Human Rights Commission and a former associate Judge of the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court of Thailand. He holds a BA in Jurisprudence from Oxford University (Hons.) and an LLB from Cambridge University. Previously he had been a Minister (Commercial Affairs) at the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, dealing with WTO matters, and for 13 years worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, having postings at the Thai Embassy in London and the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. In 1993, he transferred to the Ministry of Commerce to work in the Department of Intellectual Property. Mr. Weerawit has been a strong proponent for the use of intellectual property to promote socio-economic and technological development in developing countries, as well as the protection of traditional knowledge and genetic resources, and for the LL.M. (Business Law) Program teaches patent law in Advanced Intellectual Property law.
