In summary, nearly monodisperse tetragonal tungstate (MWO4,
M ) Pb, Ca) microspheres of different diameters ranging from
4.4 to 6.8 µm, which are constructed by subunits with different
shapes, can be synthesized by a surfactant-assisted solution
method. The diameters of these microspheres can be tuned by
controlling the reaction conditions. The PbWO4 and CaWO4
monodisperse microspheres gave emission at 430 and 420 nm,
respectively, of whose absolute intensity decreased with increasing temperature from 20 to 270 K. Further optimization of the
reaction conditions could make the presented route suitable for
producing monodisperse tungstate microspheres, which can be
self-assembled into ordered structures with interesting optical
properties.
