Directly after therapy, the SFBT group showed
greater improvements than the CAU group on
psychological functioning, social functioning, maladaptive
behaviour, autonomy and social optimism.
At follow-up, 6 weeks after therapy, the improvements
on the first three measures mentioned were
sustained. Overall, these results are similar to
recent SFBT outcome research in the general
population, showing that SFBT is more effective
than ‘treatment as usual’ (MacDonald 2007;
Gingerich et al. 2012) with medium effect sizes
(Stams et al. 2006).
