Vascular anomalies are most commonly seen in the right
colon and can be single or multiple. They are usually a few
mm in size but may be as big as 1 cm or larger [66].
Endoscopic hemostasis has been successfully reported
using thermal modalities (bipolar probe, heater probe, and
APC) as well as injection therapy [47, 63, 64]. Alternatively,
hemostasis can be achieved with a heater probe.
Both modalities are equally efficient in long-term followup
in terms of the number of bleeding episodes, blood
transfusions, and hematocrits when compared to prior to
endoscopic treatment.
Among all of the available techniques and accessories,
APC appears to be the simplest and safest modality. There
is evidence that vascular malformations tend to recur,
therefore, endoscopic surveillance is necessary, particularly
in patients with multiple lesions.
