A few months ago, I was in an Indian history class listening to the lecture. It was about India during the 1900’s.
As I was listening, taking notes and trying to understand there came a point when the teacher said something about the Irwin-Gandhi pact in 1931 that made me restless and I was on my toes- in my brain !
One of the diseases that is on the rise in India today is Hypertension. I began to wonder if History is related to the etiology of a few diseases that are prevalent in today’s India.
So never in my life did I think that reading history would help me gain an insight into the etiology of various diseases that are rampant in India today.
So if we look at it, on 5th march 1931, a Gandhi-Irwin pact was made [between Gandhi – Lord Irwin] and one of the components of the pact was “to allow salt making for personal consumption.”
