The transmission electron microscopy study results are consistent with a similar mechanism of action for corifungin. Corifungin damaged the plasma membrane of trophozoites as well as cytoplasmic organelle membranes. There was loss of the inner wall of cysts (Fig. 4 and 5). Corifungin targets mitochondria more effectively than amphotericin B in Aspergillus terreus (J. Tunac, unpublished observations) (24).
