Executive Summary
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer mortality in the world. Occupational
carcinogens have been linked to lung cancer: among 74 known occupational carcinogens
and carcinogenic circumstances, 37 have been associated with lung cancer. We
conducted an investigation to identify high risk occupations and industries using data
from a population-based case-control study in British Columbia to expand current
knowledge of occupational risk factors for lung cancer. An attempt was made to identify
the lung cancer risk of specific agents with in high risk occupations and industries using a
job exposure matrix (JEM) developed by NIOSH.
