Lorie, I've thought of that. But in my mind, that's next time...not this time. There are MILLIONS of buyers on eBay and if I land a "this time" for each of these buyers...who cares about next time? :)
All jokes aside...I was one one of these eBay buyers a few years back. I stayed loyal to eBay because despite the scary thought that random people are just selling stuff and you are not buying from a company, eBay actually protects the buyers. So if I buy something that's not available from stores, eBay will protect my purchase if something goes wrong. In my case, I had a vintage camera hobby...and that stuff you can't get from the stores. I'm sure other people have the same mentality, except maybe they didn't know where to buy those glass canning mason jars, or those sunglasses David sells. Even if I did find out that something I bought on eBay was from Best Buy...that may not stop me from buying from eBay again.
Maybe I know Best Buy and Home Depot and Lowes and Bed Bath Beyond and all these other stores exist...but I know them as physical stores. I won't trust their internet sales (delays, processing errors, creating more accounts, saving credit cards at multiple places) to do a good job. After all, it's Amazon and eBay that are internet giants. Maybe I want to pay a few more dollars to get that peace of mind protection from eBay or Amazon.
Not saying our sources are bad...but these are some of the ways people think. So no need for us e-dropshippers to overthink things. When the weather is nice, we shouldn't be asking why there aren't storms...we'll solve the one-off, two-off issues when we encounter them. And there are thousands of us here for ideas.
