It is obvious that in the developing countries recycled materials have value whereas in the developed countries recycled
materials do not have much value. Moreover, in the developed countries the cost of dismantling a ship is high (even when
the process is mechanized) whereas in the developing countries the cost of dismantling a ship is relatively low.
Consequently, the natural home of ship recycling is in developing countries. Ship breaking, scrapping, demolition in these
countries are dangerous for health and safety of workers, and contaminate environment. The implementation of measures
for health and safety and for the prevention of pollution is not considered essential in the developing countries.
