Advancements in simulation-related hardware and software over the last
decade have been dramatic. Computers now provide processing power unheard
of even a few years ago. Improved user interfaces and product design have
made software significantly easier to use, lowering the expertise required to use
simulation effectively. Breakthroughs in object-oriented technology continue to
improve modeling flexibility and allow accurate modeling of highly complex systems.
Hardware, software, and publicly available symbols make it possible for
even novices to produce simulations with compelling 3D animation to support
communication between people of all backgrounds. These innovations and others
are working together to propel simulation into a new position as a critical
technology.
