Present observations on the kidney sections showed
progressive damage which increased with the duration of
time and the severity of hyperglycaemia. Severe
hyperglycaemia induced by the streptozotocin caused the
renal damage. Several researchers have described different
kidney lesions with their possible mechanisms. Most kidney
sections showed lesions similar to human glomerulosclerosis,
glomerular membrane thickening, arteriolar hyalinization
and widespread tubular necrosis.
