How we feed ourselves has changed significantly over the years. The North American diet, or Standard American Diet (SAD), has shifted from pure, natural whole food grown in backyards and local farms to nutrient-deficient, processed food products that feed many and feed cheaply. A steady diet of refined, processed foods offers little nutrition and has been associated with chronic diseases, such as obesity and diabetes.
More research every day shows that there are basic nutrients contained within food that affect health in positive ways, and that consistent consumption of processed food damages health over time. It is important to know what the body needs to thrive, and what can damage it to the point of disease.
