1. Introduction
The skin is a barrier against environmental factors and losing parts of it can cause disability or even death.
Wound healing is a complex and dynamic process with multiple phases. Several local and systemic factors such
as age, certain medications (corticosteroids, anticoagulants, aspirin), nutrition (protein, vitamins specially A & C,
zinc, iron), circulation and tissue hypoxia status, localized compounds (antibiotics, antiseptics) and wound
dressing affect the healing process. Achieving faster recovery and less scarring is still one of medicine's most
important goals. Moreover, shortening recovery time is of critical importance since it reduces the chance of
infection and decreases complications and costs.
