Actor Tridsadee "Por" Sahawong has been told that his foot needed to be amputated to save his life and that his family were behind him and would help him to recover.
His secretary Sornmontra Pichaisornphlaeng said on Wednesday that the 37-year-old actor's family had decided to tell him about the amputation on Tuesday.
Por took the news well and in strong spirit when informed about the doctors' decision to amputate his left foot, said Mr Sornmontra, who was confident the actor will overcome the psychological and physicals scars.
Por will undergo rehabilitation after he fully recovers.
Mr Sornmontra was among the people in the coronary care unit on the ninth floor of Ramathibodi Hospital's Somdech Phra Debaratana Medical Centre on Tuesday when the actor found out about the amputation. His wife, daughter, parents, doctors and psychologists were present at probably the most difficult moment he had faced.
His family told him that having Por back was the best thing, regardless of what happened to him, the secretary said.
The doctors amputated his infected left foot above the ankle on Nov 20 to save his life as he was battling dengue haemorrhagic fever and was in a coma for weeks.
His condition has improved since then and he can now breathe on his own after relying on a respirator for weeks. He can move his body and speak but still shows signs of tiredness, Mr Sornmontra said.
