Korean Studies in Southeast Asia made phenomenal growth since the 2000s, due to both the commitment and zeal of the leading universities in Southeast Asia and the expansion of political, economic and socio-cultural interactions and exchange between Southeast Asia and Korea. In particular, Korean Studies Association of Southeast Asia (KoSASA) can be singled out as one of the major factors that contributed to this rapid development. KoSASA, established in 2004 and led by the leading universities in 8 countries in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar), has become an important regional cooperative community for development of education and research in Korean Studies in the region. As part of the collaboration, KoSASA has been holding biennial International Conferences, starting from the inaugural conference in Vietnam in 2005. The 6th KoSASA International Conference is scheduled for 2014, hosted by University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
