Food for Thought
• Rare cases of eclampsia occurring before 20 weeks of gestation and up to 28 days postpartum have been reported; if pre-eclampsia/eclampsia occurs early in the second trimester (e.g., at 14–20 weeks of gestation), the possibility of molar pregnancy or choriocarcinoma should be considered
• BP is normal in 20% of cases of eclampsia
•Maternal eclampsia is associated with increased risk for epilepsy in the child
•In a randomized controlled pilot study of 200 women with eclampsia, researchers reported finding no significant differences in maternal and neonatal outcomes between cesarean and vaginal delivery (Seal et al., 2012)
