The lipid production of marine Chlorella sp. increased from 117
to 651.2 mg/L when increasing initial glucose concentration from 0
to 20 g/L. Similarly, the lipid production of Nannochloropsis sp. increased
from 109.8 to 798.1 mg/L when increasing initial glucose
concentration from 0 to 15 g/L (Table 2). A slight decrease of lipid
production of Nannochloropsis sp. was observed at initial glucose
concentration of 20 g/L. The chlorophyll content decreased with
increasing initial glucose concentration for both microalgae
strains. This is largely due to the increase of heterotrophic metabolism
of glucose at higher concentrations of glucose.
