The general rule is that the longer the club the flatter the angle of the swing; while the shorter the club the steeper the angle.
The perfect swing should appear to be in a straight line looking from the side (behind the line) of a player. Meaning, when you draw the club back to the top of the back swing and then bring it down to the strike and on into the through swing, you should try to maintain as near as possible the same swing plane.
