More about describing some Thai dishes
The tourist is reading a menu and wants to know what some Thai dishes are like./
Tourist : What’s ‘Tom yam Kung’?
Guide : It’s hot and sour prawn soup./
Tourist : What about ‘Tom Kha Kai ’? What’s in it?
Guide : It’s pieces of chicken cooked in coconut milk and laos./
Tourist : What’s laos? Is it a vegetable?
Guide : Not really./ Laos is a rhizome, or a root, of the greater galangal. It’s like ginger but it’s more delicate in flavor./
Tourist : That sounds interesting./ Can you order one dish of this for me? Let’s see./ What else is there? What’s ‘Tod Man Pla’?
Guide : That’s fried fish ball.
Tourist : What’s the fish ball made from?
Guide : Well, it’s made from minced fish mixed with curry paste./
Tourist : O.K. Let’s also try that.
