At first, with regards to its clinical and institutional aspects,
there are a number of factors which may vary: the type of drugs
administered, their dosages, whether progressive or at high dose
from the beginning, the deepness of sedation, its reversibility or
not, the level of observed or supposed remaining consciousness
of the patient, the length of sedation and uncertain delay until
death, and the consequent concerns and emotional burden for
the carers and the relatives
