2.5. Calculations and statistics
The yield of bioflocs production in every cycle was calculated
using the following equation:
Y = VSSbioflocswithdrawal× Vbioflocswithdrawal/Vfeeding× CCfeeding (1)
where Y is the yield of bioflocs production (g VSS/g C),
VSSbioflocswithdrawalis the concentration of VSS in the bioflocs withdrawal phase (g VSS/L), Vfeedingis the volume of feeding RAS effluent
(L), and CCfeedingis the concentration of C added into the RAS effluent
(0.375 g C/L).
The ADCs for the dry matter and nutrients were calculated using
the following equations:
ADC of dry matter (%) = (1-B/B
) × 100% (2)
ADC of nutrients (%) = (1-A/A
× B/B
) × 100% (3)
where A and A’ are the nutrient contents of dried jellylike bioflocs
pellets and feces, respectively. And B and B’ are the Cr2O3contents
of dried jellylike bioflocs pellet and feces, respectively.
All of the statistical analyses in the present study were performed using SPSS version 16.0 for Windows. One-way ANOVA was
used to determine the significance of each parameter amongst different groups. Significant differences were considered at P-values
less than 0.05. If a significant difference was found, ANOVA was
followed by Duncan’s test
