Significant differences (p < 0.01) between some group averages
for the flexural modulus and strength values are presented in Table
2 as letters. Although the flexural properties of the sandwich-structured
composites were higher than those of the RH particleboards
(control A), they were lower than those of the strandboards (control
B) (Figs. 2 and 3). When the wood strand content increased
to 30 wt.% in the face layer, the flexural modulus and strength of
the sandwich-structured composites met the minimum requirements
(EN 312 Type P5 [19], 18 N/mm2 and 2550 N/mm2) of load
bearing particleboards for use in humid conditions.
