The Fairmont Yangcheng Lake in Kunshan, China, recently installed beehives that will produce fresh honey on the hotel's namesake lake. The resort has brought in a local expert, who has been in beekeeping business for 15 years, to tend the beehives and bring wild bees from the West Mount in Suzhou. Meanwhile, the hotel provides serene surroundings with plenty of trees and flowers in its 200 acres of private organic herb and vegetable garden. Each day the resident bees can produce around 40 kg honey in spring, which allows chefs to offer guests a natural taste for desserts and entrees throughout the resort.
Vital Stats: More than 2,500 honey bees living in 10 beehives produce 40 kg of honey per day in peak season.
