A possible enhancement of the system could be the activation of the GPS abilities of modern mobile smartphones, which can send their coordinates to a server. This idea remains to be investigated further, with a goal to compile a mobile application that will bring on the firefighters' hands fire risk indices, fire behavior potential, satellite images and spatial information, along with the actual signal of their vehicles transmitted to the command center of control. The Virtual Fire prototype is currently applied in Lesvos Island of Greece, but its flexibility enables its expansion to a broader area. Implementation efforts for an expansion require re-calculation of ANN for the fire ignition code running in the HPC scheme. Such an expansion would also demand efficient scalability of the workload computations and more reliable data storage, which may be provided by moving from HPC to a cloud-based platform.
