No further sediments were dated to the time between ~70 and 25 ka at our study site (Fig. 8a), even though at least three MIS 3 and 4 lake stands are reflected in the 10e15mAHD beach ridges (Cohen et al., 2012). These lakes would have submerged the modern shoreline in the study area by more than 9 m of water, but no finegrained lacustrine or near-shore sediment of this age is found in the study area, where the oldest sediment directly overlying Unit 1 is of MIS 2 age.
