The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) has shown that a plug-in hybrid vehicle with a modest 20-mile electric range could save 300 gallons of gasoline, avoiding 6000 pounds of damaging greenhouse gas emissions and reducing pollution by 38 percent.
A report published by the National Resources Defense Council with EPRI found that, if 60 percent of U.S. light vehicles were powered by the electric grid, carbon emissions from the transportation sector would drop by one–third. This is equivalent to taking 82 million conventionally-powered cars – and the pollution they produce – off our roads.
