Born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1957, Spike's middle-class family moved to Brooklyn, New York, when he was two years old. His father, jazz musician Bill Lee, and his mother, Jackie, had five children. The Lees provided a loving and stable home for their family. Spike's interest in movies began as a youngster. After graduating from More house College in Atlanta, he studied film making at New York University. soon after that, he made his first feature film, "she's Gotta Have It" with a budget of only $200,000. Since the success of that movies, Lee has written, produced, and directed five more films. All of them are extremely controversial and extraordinarily popular with both black and white audiences. One of Lee's latest achievements was to be invited to teach film at Harvard University.
