These two senses are invaluable for the representation of
the external world, as well as the dynamic interactions of
an individual with other animals. Here, I review recent
progress in our understanding of pheromone perception,
the major force that drives social interactions among
conspecifics, in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster.
