Air-propelled grit application does result in minor visible
damage to crop stems and leaf tissue, but grit type or application
frequency did not negatively affect fruit yield or the proportion of
harvested fruit that was graded as marketable in this study
(Tables 3 and 4). Tissue damage and even changes in growth habit
may result from grit application (Wortman, 2014), but no studies
have reported reductions in crop density, yield, or quality as a result
of abrasive-weeding (Forcella, 2012).
