Statistical analysis
The primary outcomemeasure was mycologic success at weeks
2 and 10. Secondary outcome measures included clinical
success at weeks 2 and 10 and mortality at weeks 2 and 10.
Categorical variables were analyzed by using the Chi
Square Test or Fisher Test. Continuous variables with
normal distribution were analyzed by using the Student’s
t-Test, and continuous variables with non-normal distribution
were analyzed by using the ManneWhitney U-test.
The variables found to be significantly associated
(p 0.05) with a positive culture at week 2 or week 10 in univariate
analyses and other variables described previously as
prognostic indicators (mental status, baseline high CSF opening
pressure, CSF culture result at week 2, and duration of
treatment with Amph B) were entered into a multivariate
analysis using a logistic regression model.
