In 2008, Google launched Project 10^100, an initiative for inviting and enabling consumers to generate and contribute ideas of sustainable product design, and particularly ideas that help other people. The five most helpful concepts would eventually be implemented and their originators would win a share of US$10 million. Sustainable ideas included those addressing community, environment, health, and education. Some 150,000 ideas came from 170 countries. The proposals were narrowed down to a short list of 100, and the public was invited to vote for 20 semifinalists
