conducted a survey of 121 nurses working in United Kingdom hospitals. They claim NPs have the skill set to conduct physical examinations, assess risk factors, and screen for disease. After 2 hours of education and practice time, the NPs and nurses were able to examine the mouth in only 5 minutes. The authors cautioned that with regular use of the new skills, the screening process would not add too much burden to an already hard-working nursing staff and would allow detection of tumors at an earlier stage.
