In summary, this study investigated the antioxidant activities
and chemical compositions of essential oil and various fractions of
ethanol extract of C. violaceum. The essential oil, CF, and EAF of C.
violaceum exhibited the strong abilities to act as antioxidants compared
to other fractions and to ethanol extract. Consequently, our
results suggested that the extract can be utilized as an effective and
safe antioxidant source. Based on the obtained results, antioxidant
activities of extracts from C. violaceum were contributed by several
types of compounds, such as phenolics, polyacetylenes, terpenes,
fatty acids, ketones, and esters. These results are in good agreement
with the popular use of C. violaceum. Therefore, the root extract of
C. violaceum has been proved as a beneficial resource in food or
pharmaceutical industry.
