This investigation reports preparation of tailor-made copolymer
of FMA by RAFT polymerization and study of its self-healing characteristics.
In this case the copolymers of FMA and butyl methacrylate
(BMA) were prepared by RAFT polymerization using 4-
cyano-4-[(dodecylsulfanylthiocarbonyl)sulfanyl] pentanoic acid
(CDTSP) as a RAFT reagent. Here BMA was used as the comonomer,
as its glass transition temperature (Tg) is low (~25 C) i.e at ambient
temperature. The tailor-made RAFT copolymer was reacted with
bismaleimide to prepare thermally amendable polymer by the use
of DA reaction. The DA cross-linked polymer was characterized by
FT-IR, NMR, DSC and depth sensing nano indentation (DSI) analysis.
The self-healing characteristics of the polymer were analyzed by
SEM analysis.
