Just wondering. What are some things us westernes do that is frowned upon in Thailand? Beside getting drunk and stupid.

There's only a few really most important first is respect the king and royal family, respect Buddhism dress appropriately when visiting temples and be extra respectful to the monks. always be polite, politeness means a lot out there. take your shoes off when required and don't point the bottom of your feet at the locals it's the equivalent of giving somebody the middle finger but a lot more insulting, and last of all remember to smile a lot.

I feel sorry for the staff trying their best to help some people that are a bunch of morons.
I've been through the airport many times and everything runs like clockwork.
As for the two divs that somehow managed to spend 5,000 squid! What the hell were they doing? A lot of people would agree that you could comfortably live for quite a while in lovely accommodation, being well looked after.
I wish the BEEB documented the three sensible women towards the end of the programme. They certainly appeared to have had one of the best holidays ever, and I hope they visit here again.

Ex-expat in Thailand here.
That's a decent series, showing Thai people in a better light than many of its predecessors (I'm thinking of "Big Trouble in Thailand" for example). It tells how nice most of them are and also how those whose job is to assist tourists are desperately willing to help. Unfortunately it also demonstrates how helpless they can be in many cases, due to their inadequate control of English (I'm not even mentioning other languages) and a lack of real means (how can such an important office in a major airport not have a fax? it's probably probably been broken for months...). It's unfortunately too common in Thailand to put a nice uniform with shiny badges on a very average person without a clue, no trainining of any sort and give him/her some "official" role. He/She usually does try his/her best, but...
I'd also wish that this documentary wouldn't insist so much on the childish and somewhat laughable things shown and told. Of course Thais are often like this and it can be nice and refereshing when having a friendly chat, but a security official whose main purpose is to find a farang husband? And no, I don't think that this was said tongue in cheek.
