There are several species that have proved
to be effective in the control of
phytoplankton including Daphnia magna
and D. pulex (Moss et al., 1997). A pilot
study on the control of phytoplankton by
zooplankton in China showed that D.
magna could graze single-cell
phytoplankton and some Microcystis flosaquae
and the system had good removal
efficiencies of phytoplankton up to 86.85%(Ma et al., 2009).
