Practical Implications. The results of the present study
have shown that important classes of pharmaceuticals
present in wastewater effluents such as macrolide and
sulfonamide antibiotics as well as synthetic and natural
estrogens can be selectively oxidized by use of relatively low
O3 doses. Furthermore, the results demonstrated that suspended
solids have only a minor effect on the oxidation of
pharmaceuticals
